When the traditional broadband internet network can’t reach you, your options are pretty limited. Satellite internet is not a new concept, but it has had its problems. Historically, it has been slow, expensive and plagued with weather-related interruptions. Not a resounding testimonial for satellite internet.   However, Starlink promises to change all that by using low-orbit satellite dishes to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more. **What is Starlink?** Starlink is a satellite internet connection that is delivered using a system of satellites in low orbit around the earth. Your house gets connected to the satellite internet via a dish on your roof, which connects to one of the larger satellite dishes Starlink has on the ground in New Zealand. These larger satellite dishes are connected to the fibre network and the global internet. When you connect to the internet, the content goes from a server to the satellite and back down to your house. **What about weather interruptions?** Starlink has been designed and tested to handle heavy rain, hail, sleet, snow, gale force winds and extreme temperatures, making it perfect for rural and remote locations. #### **How much is Starlink internet?** In New Zealand, plans start from $159/month and you can try Starlink with a 30-day trial. If you’re not satisfied you can return the hardware for a full refund. There’s also a one-off setup cost for your Starlink Kit which has everything you need for setup.  If you live rurally and your internet connection leaves a lot to be desired, Starlink could be a good option. Plus, it’s easy to install, self-orientates and you can be connected and streaming your favourite show in minutes.
